With what film do you filter your reflection?

Sishir Baid

Human beings are creatures of passion. We are driven, motivated and uninterrupted from the paths we walk on when there is something we see as valuable to strive for. Sometimes we aimlessly wander in our routines, looking to fulfill our need to have something to motivate us, something to fulfill us on a deeper level.

We develop vices to cope with the lack thereof such. But when we look into ourselves, we see nothing but an innocent face looking back at us. A child that has been undernourished, deprived of the soup that would give him the warmth he needs for his growth into the masterpiece he was destined to be.

We look at ourselves as objects of perfection, but placed in an unclean world. We see the crudeness of circumstance, the unnecessary challenges depleting the better parts of us slowly but surely: as we hold on to as much of our selves and values as tight as we can.

We forget that we are all doing the same, we are all running after our goodies, May this be wealth and possession, a career or hobby that excites one beyond his bounds, pursuit of happiness/ relieved state of mind or satisfaction gained from responsibility and a well-balanced life.

In this pursuit we know in our bones how unique we and our approach would be. We resist the tide of water from the happenings to our life from depleting us. We promise to make the stand but we forget that we are but the result of the world we inhabit, the forces that act on us, and the people who walk into our lives.

Where is this uniqueness we point to? Is it in our approach, is it in our choices? is it in our starting points? Would the culmination of common traits in our specific order grant us that status? Seems too inconsequential when you realize that every single one satisfies the same parameter of uniqueness.

Our starting points if differed wouldn’t affect our approach at that point, but moving forward it defiantly would. So goes with what we call our morals and ethic code at that point in time, at their creation.

When we see this we realize that we are but a mirror image of the circumstances we participate in. We must respond to them and them only. We cannot choose another set of circumstances unless a choice with a higher degree of separation is itself a part of our circumstance.

The world we inhabit, the life we live, the choices we make, the actions we take lead to this filter which we call our essence. With this essence we obtain the reflection of our world, the culmination of our circumstance. What we create from what is. How we are shaped by what is.

What we create from what is. How we are shaped by what is.
