As the world continues to reel under the effects of the pandemic we at ROADFOLK persevere on with our efforts to create our own niche. I have always strongly felt that we must never underestimate the strength of one person. Each of us can make a difference. And we must accept and acknowledge that. Once you have done that then you will be ready to see how you can make a difference and how you can convince others in your sphere of influence to make a difference too.
Quite honestly the possibilities are infinite. This brings me to the theme for this month for us – INFINITY. With all that we are facing at every level – as individuals, as towns, as cities, as countries and as a planet – we are now forced to view the world with a new set of coloured lenses. New colours mean new initiatives. And that means new possibilities. Given human ingenuity the possibilities are infinite.
Over the Dassera weekend we were able to kick-off our farming initiative. Driven by the sole purpose of getting good food for our family and the families of those that are close to us. Whilst many an entrepreneur is launching into the food retail business we chose to dive into the growing arena. It is very exciting to enter the world of farming. The possibilities are amazing and at the risk of being repetitive they are infinite. We are working on purely natural methods of farming with a lot of intercropping using only local seeds and plants. We are choosing to stay away from the mainstream grains and any form of single cropping. Our focus to an extent will be to work with millets as they are very nutritive, both for us humans and for the health of the soil. I for one, am eagerly awaiting the day I can get our own grain produce to our tables at home.
Our trees initiative along with The Pink Tree Project and with Gouri’s Goodies is still ongoing, but we do need more support from all of you out there to achieve our 50000 trees to be planted in Meghalaya. So do go on to the www.gourisgoodies.com and download some recipes. This initiative is being executed by Worldview Impact Foundation and the interview we were to publish with its founder, Bremley Lyngdoh, has been delayed and is now scheduled for this week.
We have more guest writers coming on board this month and some more in the coming months to share their thoughts and Allen Shaw shall be writing his monthly piece as well. Do look out for that.
In the meantime many countries are facing the second wave and dealing with severe conditions. Our hearts go out to all who are suffering and struggling during this very tough time. For the ones who are affected there is the illness and for many of the others there is loneliness and depression and the grieving for their losses. All of us need to support each other now. We pray, that if nothing else, this stealthy attacker shall unite humanity as it battles a common enemy.
As we head towards the end of a very momentous year, we in India navigate our lives gingerly through our most festive time of the year. Celebrating, yet cautiously. Celebrate we must as life is short and must be lived to the fullest possible. And the knock on effect of celebrations shall keep the wheels of commerce turning.
I notice that some people are so fed up, that they are willing to throw caution to the wind and somehow rebuild some semblance of normal. We were in Goa recently for some work and were able to steal one day as a break. Wherever we went it felt as though the pandemic was a faint memory from some bad dream. People were going about the normal lives and traffic was worse than ever for this time of the year.
Although at some level we want to turn back the clock, it is most definitely time for change, for each and every one of us. Time to rethink our lives. Time to take action and improve the world around us. The question is which way we go and what possibilities we embrace. Let us put our heads together and start afresh.
Wishing everyone a very happy Diwali and a very prosperous new year. God Bless!!
