If you have a travel bucket-list, buzzing New York is sure to be on it. Some say it is an overrated destination, some say they can keep going back for more. But to be honest, every place has its own charms, and New York hits the spot for the artist, the performer, the shopper, the foodie-bugs and fun-lovers. Sometimes, an all-round experience is the only thing you need, and what better way to do it, than in a city that offers a world of experiences?
So when I go back to New York for yet again a cumbersome few weeks (yes, I say this because chaos is not really my style, but exploring is; so alas, I shall make do, for some experiential living), I will be sure to reward myself with stays to escape the constant humdrum of this busy town. Food is a common goal for us as a family when we travel. Our happiness begins and ends with excellent tastes, whether it is food or some heavenly cocktails. So bar-hopping has a special place in our trips.
Yes, the trip will entail a lot of sightseeing, eating and exploring (museums speak to us in ways that people wouldn’t); but what is more exciting for me, is to find a spot to lay down my bags for a weekend to escape the humdrum. And I have found just the place! An architectural marvel, a natural delight and the perfect escape from the chaotic city cycles. Upstate New York usually calls for discerning travelers looking for something more than just a bed to sleep in or a hotel to drink in. It has hidden gems and places to lose yourself and find yourself in.
So I found something to lose myself in, and rediscover myself in. The Treehouse Willow is a secluded retreat in Catskills, New York; forage through the woods to find yourself in this dreamy home to unwind in. At first look, you’d think you’re setting down your bags in a spaceship, or a home of the aliens; but trust me, the woodwork, the comfort you seek is all there. The woodwork comes from californian cedars and other elements are locally sourced by a British architect who took up this project and created a sanctuary for those that need the nature pill.
Like a small duplex, this pad opens up to an open kitchen and couch format, with stairs leading up to the bedroom – of sorts. With windows to let in natural light and if that isn’t enough, just spend a morning at the window and you’re looking at a 34 acre span of trees, sunlight and no people in sight!
Splendid as it sounds, I am sure the worry of eating and drinking gets to us. And for this, the tree house willow offers basic tea and coffee services in your property, and it is just a 15 minute drive from the nearest town for a solid meal or some grocery shopping!
So the next time you’re heading to the Big Apple, it’s time to skip the weekend trip to Vermont, and just head upstate for some much-needed me time among flora and fauna!
