Brimming Volcanoes & Beach Blues: Oh Bali, You Take My Breath Away!

Mohit Gupta

The lockdown period has been hard on us; my beach bumming daydreams take over my mind sometimes and all I want to do in that moment is sit on sand and listen to waves crash. However, I have had to keep my mind on hold almost all of 2020, and 2021 may just be the year to break the spell.

When I think of a beach vacation, I also think of all that I can do on the days that the beaches are down; like jungles, safaris, treks and gallivanting from site to site for some history. And for this reason, I usually prefer my vacations in a Balicious land; the hindu island that takes breaths away in an instant. While a lot of hotels dot the shoreline, and usually picking any would do, because all you need is a bunch of swim shorts and cocktails, and life is good. However, my trip would need some escaping too; from the hustle-bustle, hip-hop and the constant buzz of parties.

Versatile at best, Bali offers the best of beaches; for beach-bums and surfers alike, jungles, divers, temple tourism, mountains to scale with treks and food for a culture-hungry soul. Whether it’s the Taman Ujung, an awe-inspiring palace constructed to dazzle and tickle eclectic minds with traditionally artistic design influences, or the soul-speaking emerald rice terraces or a polygamy of cultures like native dances, farming methods, jungle treks or simply a lose yourself ambiance of revelry, Bali has it all for yours truly.

I know I’ll end my trip in Uluwatu, because there’s no other like it. Cliffs surrounding sparkling coastlines and seclusion; just what I need to think, reflect and rejoice in. Dramatic waves, a jaw-dropping view from any of the cliffs and so much green and blue around that life just becomes a journey full of simple moments full of joy. Let’s not get ahead of ourselves and call it absolute privacy, because Bali is nothing if not buzzing everywhere. So there’s always bars and cafes to keep you entertained too. Just choose to go only when you’ve had too much self-exploration, haha!

While we are on the topic of seclusion and cliffs, let’s not forget my bucket-list special from Bali: The Edge, Uluwatu. If you go over travelgrams from famous travellers on Instagram, you’ll see a picturesque pool etching out of the land, catching the sunsets, waves and people reveling in it. That’s The Edge Bali, a luxurious private villa concept that I have been eager to visit and experience. The opulence, the stunning views, the excellent hospitality and the location all bring to mind an end-of-the-world kind of experience, like, “here is where I want to be if the world is ending now!”. 500 feet up from sparkling beaches, The Edge Bali offers first-class stay and amenities for your luxury hungry soul. And what’s more, the magnum butler offers bespoke services to any guest at the property with tailored experiences suiting your needs and wants. Spend a day at their spa because even a whole day is not enough to experience pampering at a stunning sea cliff opening out to the blue horizons that seduce and expand your senses.

All in all, yes I do wish to go back to Bali once again, and this time experience The Edge Bali in all its scenic glory, because if there is one thing that our dear coronavirus has taught us, it is to appreciate every minute of our lives, because no one lives forever!
