Unsurprisingly, the theme of my life is “Work in Progress”, and if you don’t immediately nod your head in agreement, you’re lying to yourself. It’s about the ways in which we are all Frankensteins; collaged together of the things we want to be, the things we already are but need to make a point to claim, and our influences. Visions of the future, of unrelenting progress and revision. It’s also about the coping mechanisms and survival tactics that become sources of strength — sense of humour, style and self-presentation. This progress is measured. By how much I enjoy a meal on any given day. The conversations I hold. The debates I lose. The ripeness of the bananas I buy. The friends I have. The friends I’ve lost. The glass of wine in my hand at the end of a long day of work. The money I make. The money I spend. What I have realised is that living a better life is to lead a purposeful life. Ultimately, I do what excites me. I do what excites me to the best of my abilities. And above all, I do what excites me with no expectations.
