Yes, the UK is vast, busy, mind-blowingly varied and sometimes best explored via roadways. Similar to Scotland, if you wish to skip the trains, a road trip (despite being hours long, and requiring various stops) could be a blissful way to spend the days.
I know how I would plan my trip. It would begin in Scotland; an experience to never forget. A week or two exploring good whiskey and amazing people, and fly down to Manchester for a few days. What better way to explore the history of football, than without Manchester and Liverpool?
But, then again, my rest-hungry soul always looks for a pampering getaway between heavy sightseeing. I need a break to stop, explore, rejuvenate and take in the country I am in; and I choose to do so with boutique properties – a hotel chain can never provide the experience of a destination like its locals do. So, I went and found myself a new one for my bucket-list. The Edgar House!
Oh, stunning at best, this Georgian property sits cradling the banks of River Dee in Chesire. Think English flair, tea parties, manicured gardens, small townhouse property, homemade foods, cakes and bakes, and a whole lot of bling; after all, Cheshire it is. Just 5 bedrooms makes my heart flutter; the exclusivity, the privacy, the attention to detail and impeccable service *rubbing palms excitedly*
And while we’re there, I am going to make the most of it’s excellent location – just atop the city walls. Walks in the lanes of Chester are going to be nothing if not fun, exciting, frolicking yet calm, immersive and peaceful. After all, a small town offers nothing but the best of their limited restaurants, shops and attractions – one here being a myth of the city being haunted. I will surely be engaging in a ghost tour to put my scaries to rest. And while I do so, I’ll be waiting to get back into my comfortable bed, in a 19th century property, with excellent evening tea and made-with-love cookies and cakes!
So while I await my chance for the hotel to reopen to guests and plan my next adventure, what’s on your bucketlist?
