France is one country that is on most people’s bucket list. Everyone dreams of going on a romantic getaway to the famous city of love, Paris. While the capital is incredible in its own right, people often miss out on the other breathtaking parts of France such as the hilly countryside of Provence.
The idyllic region of Provence is simply like no other. With rolling fields of lavender, lush green hills and vineyards; one is instantly transported into a cottagecore fairytale. It is so easy to leave your troubles aside and get lost in the rustic charm of Provence. Not only is it visually pleasing but it is a treat for your olfactory sense. The very atmosphere and air itself exudes the scent of summer and flowers.
Provence stands like a region out of time. From the 2nd century BC to the 5th century AD, the Romans reigned in this heavenly region. And now, its deep Roman and Greek influences are seen in every crevice and corner. From the winding cobblestone streets to the picturesque stone buildings and ancient ramparts, the towns of Provence are a map of the past.
If you’re a connoisseur or a lover of art, Provence is your very own paradise. Some of the world’s most renowned artists such as Picasso, Monet, Van Gogh and Cézanne to name a few have drawn their inspiration from nature and the picturesque landscape of Provence. From vintage markets to art museums and galleries, there’s so much to explore. And when you’re done taking in all the art, visit the old vineyards. Go on tours of wine cellars and be seduced by the flavours of various wines that have been perfected over centuries.
The region of Provence includes several towns, each more captivating than the other, but the one that has stolen my heart is the quaint town of Vaucluse. It is a tapestry of vineyards, olive groves, lavender fields and tiny stone buildings that range over mountains. There’s something comforting about Vaucluse, perhaps it is the way nature is interwoven with the villages and peoples’ homes or the sunny atmosphere and the wafting scent of lavender.
During my escapades through the French countryside, I plan on residing at Hôtel Crillon le Brave. I chanced across this small luxury hotel on Instagram and was immediately taken up by it. It exudes an old-world charm while channelling just the right amount of contemporary style.
The hotel itself consists of ten interlinked houses that are perched atop a mountain in Vaucluse. Crillon Le Brave has converted the charming 17th and 18th century stone buildings into a luxury getaway haven. One can’t help but be swept off their feet with the captivating atmosphere created by renowned architect and designer Charles Zana.
With 16 rooms and 18 suites, you’re spoilt for choice. Each room and suite has an allure of its own. The gorgeous antique furniture is perfectly fused with state-of-the-art modern amenities, ensuring that the interior is just as aesthetically pleasing as the exterior. With panoramic windows and balconies, Crillon Le Brave offers you sweeping views of the quintessential French countryside.
Feast on a delectable spread of food and sip on the yummiest drinks on the patio that overlooks the sprawling green fields down below. The hotel also includes a pool that features the Mont Ventoux in the background.
If you hate missing leg day don’t fret, you can always get your daily work out dose at the internal fitness centre. Enjoy state of the art Technogym equipment along with Swiss balls, weights and yoga mats. You can even put in a request for a private coach if you’re looking for a personalized training program.
Rejuvenate your body, mind and soul with an in-house spa day. Spa des Écuries is Hotel Crillon Le Brave’s personal spa and wellness centre. Built inside the former vaulted stone stables from the 18th century, this three-treatment room spa offers a 90-minute spa therapy incorporating Swedish massage, shiatsu, reflexology and yogic breathing. If you’re on vacation with your significant other, enjoy a personalised spa treatment in the couple’s suite and disconnect from the exhausting duties of everyday life.
Whether you’re looking for a holiday where you do nothing but unwind or a holiday where you go out and explore, Vaucluse offers you the option of both. So, relax and treat yourself to a vacation like no other in the foothills of France.
